The expansive plains of the Serengeti are one of the destinations where the unusual great migration in Africa takes place. Two events of the Great Wildebeest Migration are witnessed during your 4 days Serengeti migration safari from Arusha. The first is the calving season, where wildebeests give birth to their young ones in February. When March arrives, the wildebeests decide to move from the Serengeti to Masai Mara via the Mara River. This is because of the increased prey hunting by predators and the reduced water and food supply.

Day 1: Transfer from Arusha Airport to Serengeti National Park

As you exit Arusha airport, your tour guide awaits you in the parking lot with welcoming smiles and open arms. After greeting you, he will help you carry your luggage to your 4×4 vehicle. So, note that the journey to Serengeti from Arusha is somehow long and exhausting as you embark on your four day Serengeti migration safari. From Arusha Airport to Serengeti, the distance is roughly 325–350 km by road, taking about 7–8 hours depending on the route taken. Alternatively, it is about a 1-hour flight to various Serengeti airstrips.

As you reach the gates of Serengeti National Park, you will first have to undergo the standard operating procedures during entry. Then, continue your journey through the bumpy road of Serengeti. Also, witness some of the wild animals at the sidewalk in the lavish yellowish plains, like the elephants in a group using their trunks to graze on your way to the Serengeti lodge. You will then arrive at Malaika Mara River Luxury Camp, be served a welcome drink, and be escorted to your room.

Day 2: Watch the wildebeest Mara River crossing.

At 7:45 am, take breakfast and then get ready for a morning game drive in Serengeti NP. The morning in the savannah awakens with the mist unfolding from the grasslands as the birds flock in the grey-ish clouds. And the big cats, like the lions, are seen moving in search of their morning meal. You will also observe gazelles and impalas in motion as they hide from their hunters.

Head to the banks of the Mara River, and you’ll find other tourist vehicles lined up to watch the Serengeti wildebeest migration river crossing event. The first thing you will see are the wildebeests coming from different directions and converging at the crossing start point at the Mara River. Day 3: Experience the big five animal sightings and sunset watching in Serengeti.

On the 3rd day of your 4 day Serengeti migration safari, the major highlight is the big five animals of Serengeti. The first meal of the day (breakfast) is always crucial before the morning game drives in Serengeti. So, you will discover different breakfast specialties at this Serengeti lodge restaurant prepared by professionals.  After this meal, a morning game drive to track the big 5 awaits. However, your safari guide takes it upon themselves to take you through the activities to do and the destinations in Serengeti to visit on the day.

The big five of Serengeti are the lions, rhinos, buffalos, leopards, and elephants. So, on this day, we are to track them down during game drives. During this game drive experience, the elephants are usually the ones that are commonly seen moving around and just crossing the Serengeti pathways in groups. Spot the lions and leopards are stalking or grabbing their prey, or just resting in the tall grasslands or the kopjes. Additionally, the kojpes are ancient, unique rock formations that are of spiritual significance to the Maasai people and top tourist attractions in Tanzania’s Serengeti.

Lastly, the buffaloes are witnessed drinking water at the hippo pool in Serengeti. Day 4: Visit the Hadzabe people and departure to Arusha

Wake up to a delicious morning cuisine with a fruit salad at Malaika Mara River Luxury Camp. Then proceed to a morning game drive in the park. Observe wild animals that you might not have seen in the past days, like the civet cats and the different bird species in the Serengeti.

In the mid-afternoon, you will visit the Hadzabe people for a cultural encounter in Serengeti. In addition, they are a group of skilled hunters and gatherers. So,  interact with them as you learn more about their traditions and lifestyles. Hence, they will teach you how they carry out the hunting of animals using the bow and arrow. Also, the Hadzabe will give you a taste of some of the wild fruits that they gather and their locally prepared traditional meal. Lastly, the Hadzabe people make unique art crafts, and as a sign of appreciation, you can support them by buying from them.

Later, head back to Malaika Mara River Luxury Camp and enjoy leisure activities like swimming, massage, and rest.  So, this marks the end of your 4 day Serengeti migration safari from Arusha. Lastly, the departure from Serengeti to Arusha will be the next day, early in the morning.
